Whole 30 Must Haves

Whole30 is more than a diet. It’s not sacrificing for 30 days. It’s not waiting a month until you can indulge in whatever you want again. To me, Whole30 turns a diet into a lifestyle.

I learned so much in my first Whole30 that afterwards, I was motivated to adjust my life to this clean way of eating for good. To me, the benefits of Whole30 go way beyond 30 days.

Be open and willing to listen to your body.

Until I started this I didn’t even realize what my body was telling me. Through my experience I learned about my intolerances. Dairy was the main thing I realized I was intolerant of.  Before, I was frequently feeling extremely bloated after meals.

After my first 30 days, I decided that dairy was going to be the first thing I brought back into my diet. Quickly, I realized this was something previously incorporated in my diet that was holding me back. My workouts were not as productive, my energy levels were lower and I was constantly feeling sluggish. Ever since, dairy has been something I have left out most of the time.

Slowly I incorporated things like grains back into my diet and I have learned how to eat clean and still enjoy and appreciate what I’m feeding my body.

I think what scares most people at first and even what scared me is the cravings. Everyone has their guilty pleasures when it comes to food but creativity is KEY when it comes to cravings. Train your body. There are so many substitutions that really don’t change how good something can taste.

One of the interesting things I notice while doing the Whole30 is my sleep and workout energy. While eating clean and not filling my body with toxic foods, I wake up feeling refreshed and not dreading getting out of bed. My workouts feel more productive and my energy level in general sky rockets.

In the end, it’s not about losing weight, it is more about learning what to eat to feel your best and fuel your body. You will experience tough and testing moments as your body adjusts to a new and better way of eating.

Don’t think of those moments as challenges, think of them as your reward toward a healthier, happier life.
