5 Tips To Step Up Your Photography Game!

Have you ever wondered why your pictures don’t turn out the way you pictured them in your mind? There are many factors that could come into play when upping your photo game!

Here are some tips that could help you:

1. Find a camera that works for you!

I am a Sony camera person only because that’s all I’ve owned but there are a variety of choices that could work for you! From Nikon to Canon there are many choices you can choose from and a range of prices. Ask yourself what you want to get out of this camera. You don’t need to spend big money like photographers do to get a quality camera that will do the job. Most photographers like myself have a full frame camera, but you can still take great pictures with a crop sensor camera and not have to spend as much money.

2. Get a lens to go with your nice camera!

Have you been wondering why you bought a nice camera with the lens that came with it but your pictures aren’t turning out the way you want? It is probably that you need to invest in a lens that goes with your camera body. I would recommend a 35mm 1.4 or 50mm 1.8 to start with! My favorite lens is the Sigma 35mm 1.4 because it is the perfect focal length for beautiful portrait but can also give you a wider focal length so you can capture more! Pro Tip: Remember that different cameras have different mounts (E-mount lenses & A-mount). Do your research so you don’t buy a lens that won’t go on your camera! Renting lenses is also a great option because you can try before you buy and get a better feel for what you like.

3. Settings! Settings! Settings!

Changing your settings on your camera can make a world of a difference when getting that perfect shot of you and your man on the field or off the field. Make sure you play around with your camera so that you can get used to all the ins and outs. I know, it may seem intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it it will make a world of a difference! If you don’t know where to start, search for an online class or go down the rabbit hole of Youtube tutorials. There is a ton of free education out there!

4. Add final touches!

Lightroom will be your best friend! Don’t worry. there is a free app you can download on your phone. As most of you may know, there are presets you can buy if you don’t want to play around that much! I’ll give you guys a couple of my favorites that I have come across and tried that are for everyday picture taking! Also, just want to make it clear that most presets are not going to be one click and done. You will most likely always have to fix the lighting or colors. A couple of my favorites are Tezza App (first three presets are free), Anni Graham Presets (Desktop Only), Dirty Boots Messy Hair Mobile Presets, and Doyoutravel Mobile Presets! Let me show you guys how big of a difference it makes to edit your picture afterwards! Here are a couple of my before and afters.

5. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Practice makes perfect! It takes time to master your camera. Get out there and practice while your man is at the field or before you go visit him! Pro Tip: Usually there are other baseball girls around so you could ask if anyone wants to be your model so you can play around with your camera and maybe go somewhere fun! So get out there and start shooting!
