WAGS Work: Mallory Weber

The WAGS Work Series aims to show our readers that we are more than the stereotypes you might be familiar with--we're creative, hard-working, driven, and willing to do whatever it takes to make this lifestyle work. We also hope to inspire women in all walks of life to get creative and think outside the box when it comes to working and creating the lives of their dreams. Please reach out to the women featured in this series if you have questions or want to learn more about what they do.

TELL US WHO YOU ARE, HOW YOU GOT INTO THE BASEBALL WORLD, AND A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU  AND YOUR HUSBAND.

My name is Mallory Weber; my husband is Ryan Weber. Ryan is a pitcher who was drafted in 2009 and has parts of seven years in the majors. We went to high school together but didn’t start dating until years later. When we first reconnected, Ryan was with the Atlanta Braves. Since then, we’ve been all over the country together. We finished this season with the Seattle Mariners and off season in St. Petersburg, Florida.

I absolutely love the off season and all the time we get to spend together. When Ryan isn’t golfing, our favorite things to do are go on bike rides down along the waterfront and visit our local art museums.

TELL US ALL ABOUT YOUR JOB, WHAT DO YOU DO, AND HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN WERKIN’ IT.

I am the gallery manager with the Alison West Brown Gallery in Clearwater, Florida. I have been working with Alison for about five years and absolutely love it! We work with everyone from interior designers to first time collectors. We love to help clients find the perfect piece (or pieces) of art to fit their home, their decor, and their taste. The artists we represent offer a wide variety of styles and mediums. The gallery is open by appointment only and we try to make every visit fun for our clients.

HOW DID YOU FIND THIS JOB?

My father’s office is close by; and after graduating with an Art History Degree from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!), I started helping Alison deliver art to people’s homes. I found the gallery business to be a perfect fit!

HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR WORK AND LIVING THE BASEBALL LIFE?

I am lucky enough to get to travel with Ryan during the season and return to work in the off season. Alison is very understanding of the lifestyle and always supports us!

HOW DID FINDING THIS JOB IMPACT YOUR LIFE PERSONALLY, AND FOR THE TWO OF YOU?

For me personally, this is an absolute dream job. Not only do I love the people I work with, but the gallery is so beautiful and full of color. It is such a blessing to have a job that I love and also get to be with Ryan as he pursues his dreams.

WHAT’S A TYPICAL WORKDAY LIKE FOR YOU?

There is no typical workday, which is one of the reasons I love this career so much. On days we have appointments, I help prepare the gallery and pull art pieces we think might suit the client. We might be delivering art to people’s houses or places of work so they can see it in their own space before they make a decision. These days are my favorite! I love seeing the art transform a space. I also help photograph the art for social media and catalogs, handle inventory and manage other aspects of the business, like fielding inquiries, communicating with artists, answering emails, and tasks inherent to the business.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WAGS WHO ARE TRYING TO BALANCE BASEBALL WITH THEIR OWN GOALS? OR WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WAGS WHO HAVE DEMANDING JOBS?

My advice is to do what makes YOU happy. Theres nothing wrong with traveling with your man and there’s nothing wrong with staying home and having your own career. I think it’s important to choose the right path for your own family whatever that may be.

WHAT’S THE HARDEST PART OF YOUR JOB? WHAT’S THE BEST?

The hardest part of working at the gallery is delivering the art. It can be a workout moving those heavy pieces! As part of our service, we deliver locally to allow our clients to view the optics in their own home/environment. However it’s also the best part of working at the gallery. It’s always totally worth it, and gratifying for us, when someone finds the perfect piece they love.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU ONLINE / HOW CAN WE KEEP UP WITH YOU?
You can go to www.alisonwestbrown.com to learn more about the gallery and follow @alisonwestbrown on instagram to see all of our latest pieces. Send us an email or DM if you are interested in visiting the gallery! Art makes a perfect gift for the holidays and we would love to help you find the perfect piece of art to match your taste.

My personal Instagram is @malloryw49. Please feel free to DM me with any questions about art or my experience with baseball!
