TELL US WHO YOU ARE, HOW YOU GOT INTO THE SPORTS WORLD, AND A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FIANCE.
My name is Hailey Brooke Weiss and I am married to 40-man Kansas City Royals RHP Ryan Weiss! I got into the baseball world when my family hosted college baseball players in the CPL for the Holly Springs Salamanders. We hosted Ryan's two best friends who later introduced us three years later! Ryan and I are both 25 and now live in North Carolina.
I played 4 years of D1 volleyball as captain and libero at Wake Forest University before also getting a Master of Science in Business Management from there as well.
Ryan grew up outside the Chicago area and went to Wright State University. Both his parents passed by the time he turned 21. His dad committed suicide when Ryan was 14 and when he was 21 he found his mom non-responsive on the floor and gave her CPR until the ambulance took her to the hospital where she was in a coma 3ish days before sadly passing.
He was drafted in the 4th round by the Dbacks in 2018!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU? HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started Power Move Marketing because after playing four years of D1 volleyball, I needed a way to continue to be competitive. I had already begun private consulting for several companies while still in graduate school and had found a lot of success with it! Some of my clients suggested that I begin my own marketing company since I had outperformed their previous marketing companies. Seeing how I could make a real positive impact on my clients made me realize that I wanted to continue helping companies reach their full potential, even after graduate school.
I am excited at the opportunity to continue to help companies grow and achieve their dreams to the fullest extent!! A few of my professors also helped me with the logistics and PMM was born!

WAS YOUR SUCCESS IMMEDIATE OR DID IT TAKE TIME?
It depends how you measure success. Monetarily, things got moving positively from the jump. Thankfully, there are no crazy overhead costs to digital marketing so success came pretty quickly! However, I was working crazy hours and now have too many grey hairs at 25. Real success to me is not only from the numbers in my bank account, but the impact we make for clients and how much time I get to spend doing the things that I love!
WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU FACED AND HOW DID YOU PERSEVERE IN THE HARD TIMES?
We have grown really really fast which is amazing but also comes with some growing pains. Finding the right people to work with, working with positive clients, coordinating increased operations, etc. Is a lot for a 25-year-old business owner but also very very cool!
At the beginning, I dealt with a decent amount of imposter syndrome, however, building confidence through experience and preparation washed a lot of that away for me. Confidence really is the key to any business - even though, sometimes as women, it may come off as cocky or a little aggressive unfortunately (now that is a whole other topic!!). You have to be strong enough to push aside not only the opinions of others, but your own self-doubts.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE RUNNING A BUSINESS AND LIVING THE BASEBALL LIFE?
Planning Planning Planning. I have a shared Google Calendar with my whole team and Ryan where we put all travel days, vacations, meetings, etc to keep things organized. I also work hard to get work done ahead of schedule just in case we have to up and move at any time. I also put together so many videos and documents of how to do things for my team so they can be more autonomous. I really make an effort to think ahead of what issues may arise so when things do pop up, it is an easy fix!
HOW DID STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS IMPACT YOUR LIFE PERSONALLY, AND FOR THE TWO OF YOU?
I started it officially right before COVID-19 while in grad school. Once we had to do remote classes, I had a lot more time to work on the business! I taught myself coding and actually made my website myself! So for me personally, it gave me something positive to work on during an uncertain time. I woke up every day so so excited for PMM!
At first it was a little bit of an adjustment for Ryan and I, but then it became a well-oiled machine. Growing up, both my parents worked from home so I knew how you have to tiptoe around the house at times. Ryan's mom was a special ed teacher so he never had to worry about anything like that! He did a great job respecting my "office" space and giving me uninterrupted time to work. I had to work a lot on setting up boundaries for how much work I do and when I work to make sure I was still putting enough time and effort into our relationship. We both had to really work on communicating and being more intentional with our time together.
WHAT’S A TYPICAL WORKDAY LIKE FOR YOU IN THE SEASON? IN THE OFF-SEASON?
In season, I get up semi-early and do work then hang out with Ryan once he wakes up until he goes to the field which is normally 2ish hours. I try to take all my meetings in the afternoon once Ryan is at the field (and the house is quiet lol) and I work until I need to!
Out of season I do all my calls in the mornings and work in the afternoon and he typically wakes up mid morning and throws/works out until 6ish when I am finishing up! We have a joint Google Cal where we both put everything so we can plan better.
I always try to plan my hardest calls or to-do list items when Ryan is gone so I can really focus.
WHAT’S BEEN THE HARDEST PART SO FAR? WHAT’S BEEN THE BEST?
The hardest part is balance. Finding the time for me, my friends, family, etc. However, working remotely has given me so much opportunity to travel with Ryan and experience the baseball life that it is so worth it! I've realized that you can do anything but you can't do everything and that is okay. I am a lot more patient with myself if I can't get to everything in one day. I realize now the importance of not burning out!
The best part is helping people and businesses reach the next level and opening up so many job/internship opportunities, especially for women. When I first started, 90%+ of clients, other vendors, etc were male and I love being able to build a team of predominantly women to break into the industry as well! I also genuinely LOVE owning a digital marketing agency. I love the clients, my employees, the work that I do, the creativity, etc - it is the best job ever!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON AND WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BUSINESS?
We just finished two huge campaigns for some clients who were on Shark Tank!! Now we have a little more bandwidth to take on new clients so we have been working on connecting with people and businesses that are ready to take a leap into marketing. I hope to keep expanding the team and be able to help as many clients as possible! We were also recently in the Wall Street Journal so my next goal is to maybe get picked up by another big publication like Forbes!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WAGS WHO HOPE TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?
JUST GO FOR IT! At the beginning I would find myself thinking those doubtful thoughts every now and then like, "this is stupid" "what if it fails" "is this embarrassing" but soon realized that once I was all in, I knew there would be no stopping! Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. People can't support you if you don't let them! Don't let the fear of being criticized, judged, etc scare you out of happiness, wealth, and prosperity! You know what they say - those who mind, don't matter and those who matter, don't mind!
