Finding Your Niche
Welcome boss babes! I am so excited and grateful to be able to take what I have learned and practiced with my social media and blog, and share it with you ladies to help you level up in your social media game and business.
Since I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own blog 6 months ago, I have learned a lot. My first 3 months felt like I was putting in a lot of work, running around in circles, and ramming into a wall constantly just trying to keep up with being a new blogger/influencer. I finally decided to invest in a business instagram coach and learned that I was trying to speak too much to the masses. No one was really listening because I was hopping from one topic to another, trying to be top of mind for my followers and people around the world. None of it was relevant nor was it helping me grow.
The biggest thing you need to do when you first start off and you want to establish yourself in this industry is to find your niche.
What is a niche?
“Niche is a specialized subset of a larger set, so a niche social network is one that targets a select segment of the general population.”
Why is it important to find your niche?
You want to be known for something. You want to target SPECIAL groups.
When you speak to everyone, you speak to no one. So, I am going to break this down and help you find your own niche to take your business, IG, or content to the next level.
Pull out your notepad, journal, notes, or whatever you use to brainstorm and let’s find your niche.
Step 1:
I want you to write down 3 niches you are a) passionate about and b) you are able to write endless ideas about.
Example:
Fashion
Fitness
Travel
Then I want you to break these 3 niches into 3 sections and brainstorm content ideas whether it is for you Instagram or blog. Come up with topics you can discuss.
You will find that one is more effortless than the others. So BOOM there you go, this is your niche, but it isn’t that easy. I want you to break down this niche into 3 levels. Remember I said when you speak to everyone, you speak to no one. You want to accelerate your authority in your topic and niche and become the expert and GO TO person for this topic.
Step 2:
This is where you will hone down on that niche you selected and you level yourself up because you become the expert here.
You will have 3 levels of your niche that will then create your ideal targeted audience.
Niche > Sub Niche > Sub Sub Niche
I will give you mine as an example to give you an idea for building yours.
Mental Health/Wellness > Depression/Anxiety/Self-care > Self-Care for Millenial Women who struggle with Depression and anxiety
You want to ask yourself these questions to come up with your ideal targeted niche.
Who am I trying to help?
What age group is my audience?
What is the type of person I’m targeting?
What problem am I solving for them?
How can I help them?
Step 3:
This helps you create a strong mission statement that will showcase what you offer and how you can help your niche.
Here is mine:
I help women who struggle with depression & anxiety overcome limiting beliefs so they can become their most authentic + confident selves.
This shows who I speak to, who I can help, and what they can expect from my social media.
Once you secure an audience, you can begin to expand into different topics and dabble a little in everything as you grow. This helped me level up my social media game and led me to create better content and attract a bigger audience.
I built this based on my own personal story and struggles which is where my passion comes from. This helps make my content more effortless and keeps me from burning out.
