Tired Dogs are Good Dogs

I originally had a post about doggy manners for the baseball field planned. Until baseball (& the world) was shut down. I first want to say my heart goes out to all of you during this crazy moment in life. But we are women of baseball, we know how to change our life in a moments notice. We can and will get through this together.

For those of you with pups I wanted to write three things you can easily do to tire your dog out even while practicing social distancing.

Walk Your Dog

Nature is still open! You can safely walk your dog around your neighborhood as of right now. Make sure to double check with your town’s laws at the time you are reading this. Just make sure to not let your dog say hello to other dogs or people at this time. While dogs can’t get coronavirus they still believe they may be able to carry it on their fur.

Train Your Dog

Have a dog full of energy and lots of time on your hands? Now is the time to train your dog! Whether you are looking for basic manners or fun party tricks you have all the time to train your pup to be perfect (even though all dogs are already perfection in a fur coat). A simple google search will show you lots of youtube videos on ways to train your dog. Remember to keep it fun and in short stints so your dog enjoys learning. If you need help or suggestions on training resources please reach out to me on Instagram (@haleygeren or @baseballpups).

Doggy Puzzles

This is my go to to tire out my Australian Shepherd. I put her meals in doggy puzzles, my favorites are Nina Ottosson’s puzzles, you can get them on Chewy. If your dog needs more puzzle time throughout the day I highly recommend buying Zuke’s Treats as your go to treat for the puzzles. If you need help figuring out which puzzles would be best for your dog please reach out to me again on Instagram.

Stay safe and sane everyone! Remember we will get through this and your dogs are so excited to get more time with you!

Haley Geren

Haley Geren is going into her fourth season of baseball with her boyfriend, Kyle Hart. You’ll most likely never see her without her doggy co-pilots, Sadie Jane and David Bowie. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio  and currently lives in Foxborough, Mass.  A  proud product of a blended family, she has four loving parents and eight amazing siblings. Her two favorite vacation spots are the Colorado Rocky Mountains and Antigua, Guatemala.
