15 Moving Hacks

After an unpredictable season (to say the least), one thing is inevitable over the next few weeks; MOVING. It's a part of this wild life and a notoriously stressful process that can take its toll even on the best of planners.

Whether you made the decision to travel, or will be coaching your baseball man from afar on the best ways to pack, we put together a few moving hacks to improve the process!

15 of my Best Moving Hacks

1) Give each room a different color packing label.

Use washi tape or colored markers for extra fun and stick a coordinating color or a sign on each door. This will make it easy for the movers (or yourself) to distinguish between rooms when unloading boxes.

2) Keep a stash of Ziploc bags handy on your move-in day

You can use the bags to store doorknobs, small screws, and brackets, luggage keys, or other small items.

3) Make your bed as soon as you move-in

You won't have to worry about finding your sheets, etc. when you're ready to go to bed after a long day of moving.

4) Pack a personal overnight bag with essentials

That way you’re not digging through boxes when you’re exhausted and need to brush your teeth!

5) Stop buying groceries a week prior to moving so you aren’t stuck wasting food.

Get creative with your recipes to make the most of what you have!

6) Set aside cleaning supplies for move-in day to do one final sweep and/or to have them readily available when moving in.

Not all landlords hire a professional cleaning crew prior to move-in, and you may want to wipe up the floors before putting down furniture.

7) Defrost your fridge at least one day before you move and take time to thoroughly clean it.

8) Take photos of your new home before you move anything in - especially if you're renting.

This could save you from losing your security deposit when it comes time to move out!

9) Save donation receipts if you plan on donating household items.

These will come in handy when tax season rolls around.

10) Schedule a free donation pick-up with a local charity.

11) Have lots of bottled water on hand when moving for you and your movers.

All your cups will be packed, so having bottled water on hand is essential.

12) Bring a door stopper to keep doors propped open on move-in day.

Having the front and back doors open can create wind tunnels and can be dangerous for kids or pets.

13) Collect extra moving boxes from your local liquor stores for free

These are great boxes for dishes, vases, and other heavy items.

14) Protect fragile items with packing paper, t-shirts, towels or blankets.

This will save on bubble wrap costs and waste!

15) Cover the tips of cleaning supplies and toiletry items with Saran Wrap to prevent leakage and spills.
