How To Live More Intentionally
I have three simple life hacks that will sharpen and polish the way you experience the world and the world experiences you!
Be a student of life
Talk about ideas not other people
Polish your social skills
Be a student of life There is an infinite amount of information to learn on this planet, stay curious
• Tune in to Ted.com, there is an abundance of 20 minute lessons to soak in. Get into podcasts, free education from experts!
• Read/Watch mostly non-fiction. I believe the best way to grow and learn is to avoid escaping to a simulated world.
• Challenge yourself to experience a learning curve. “Be brave enough to suck at something new.” -unknown
Talk about ideas, not other people Great minds discuss ideas, Average minds discuss events, Small minds discuss people
• Make a strong effort to be positive in your conversations. Avoid gossip!
• Build on a conversation, “Tell me more about...” Ask open ended questions, that don’t end in Yes or No. Remember something from your last conversation and ask follow up questions. Be curious about your inner circle.
• Replace BUT with AND. When we say BUT, we dismiss anything we said prior. It’s amazing how it can shift the tone of our delivery. “I love this shirt AND it was discounted” versus “I love this shirt BUT it was discounted” See how the word BUT diminishes the message. Using AND brightens the message.
Polish your social skills Participate well in your social circle
• Write thank you notes, even just a text. Express gratitude often.
• Replace an apology with a gratitude. “Thank you for waiting for me” versus “I am sorry I’m late” There are obvious times when an apology is appropriate, and there are even more times when expressing gratitude is much more fitting.
• Build people up. Celebrate others. Find reasons to be generous and kind. Be a positive part of someone else’s life. You will find your happiness will grow naturally, while lifting others.
I truly believe all things we say (in our mind and out of our mouth) and all things we consume (in our ears, thru our eyes, into our mouth) has an impact on the way we experience the world. For this reason I am mindful about the things I watch, the music I listen to and the people I surround myself with. I am also intentional about the words I say. When we speak words, we are sending a message to others AS WELL AS sending a message to self. Sharpen what you’re sending into the world, and you will begin to shift into a better version of you!
